Rereading Potter

Prentresultaat vir harry potter books

Once upon a time on a couch far far away (from the fridge) there was a girl. She was extremely bored. She suddenly had a whim which she obeyed without hesitation. She picked up her e-reader, settled down in the least ladylike pose she could muster and started to read: “Mr. and Mrs. Dursley of number four, Privet Drive, were proud to say that they were perfectly normal, thank you very much.”

You get the gist. Needless to say, her boring day very quickly became thoroughly engaging. Now, you may have a few questions. Well, let’s have them, shall we? Who is this odd girl? It is me, on a very unglamorous afternoon. What exactly was this wonderful whim she obeyed? Aha! You ask the right questions! You see, she decided to reread all the seven Harry Potter books for the umpteenth time.(Yes, I know there are eight but she did not read the eighth.)

And here I am to blog about it! Welcome to……

Why on earth would one want reread Harry Potter???

First of all, if you have never done so stop doing what you are doing and read! On second thoughts, you might want to read this before you do so for I will not be responsible for what happens to you and your family because of it.

Now that that is out of the way we can start…

After about two weeks of starvation, no communication, sleepless nights and many odd looks from family, friends and strangers alike, I succeeded in rereading Harry Potter and found that it contained about a million secret messages that I had not spotted before. There are several reasons for doing this father-disapproved activity:

Firstly, I was bored and my e-reader was just screaming at me: “Read me!”. I know, I know! It’s not a valid reason but come on! When have you ever done something and needed to validate it by giving a reason to yourself for doing it? Anyway, if you are bored, rereading Potter is a great way to pass the time and you can do it with a friend! Take turns to read aloud, try and spot something on every page that you didn’t notice last time you read the books.

Secondly, I started rereading Potter because I met new friends who actually appreciated Harry Potter and were constantly quoting Dumbledore’s oddest words. They were even out fan-girling me! So I knew I had to brush up on my Potters and quickly too. Now, I can bore everyone afresh with my endless Harry Potter knowledge. Lord Voldemort will triumph! Mwahahaha…

And finally, due to extreme circumstances that will never repeat themselves, I had not read much in the last while and had nothing to read. I needed something that would help me pass the time and be comforting. Now, these particular circumstances don’t have to present themselves for you to reread Harry Potter. All you have to do is pick up the first one and start to read and J.K. Rowling will sweep you along a wonderful journey on which you do not only observe but also experience with your wand at the ready (if you are a true fangirl/boy).

So, fellow fans! I am wishing you a wonderful journey and may the odds be ever in your favour! Oh wait, that is the wrong book…

May Mad-eye Moody fail to turn you into a ferret or start bouncing you up and down violently and may Hagrid fail to persuade you to go and be friends with a giant spider.

O.k., you don’t have to reread all the Potters now that you have read this, but believe me, it is a magical experience, one I will gladly repeat any time!
