Beastkeeper

Author: Cat Hellisen

Publisher: Henry Holt 2015

Sarah’s mother has left and now her father is turning into something non-human: a beast. Sarah has to go and live with her grandmother, where she learns about all the curses that bind her family together. Will she succeed in breaking them…?

I am in two minds about this book because I enjoyed it but I also found it very complicated. The way everything is connected is fragile yet beautiful. The way everything is described is fantastic but strange. It proves that imagination is an undiscovered realm of wonders greater than anything anyone has ever dreamt about. If you love dreams and fantasies and stories with many twists and turns, this book is for you. To be honest, I prefer something a bit less beastly.
